Environment Laws
Environment Laws are an emerging area of legislation around the world. Particularly in Pakistan, after the 18th Amendment to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, environmental regulation has become the responsibility of the provincial government. The Provincial Governments have also taken their initiatives by enacting the respective provincial laws to regulate the industry under the aforesaid laws. The provincial Environment Protection Agencies are now issuing Show Cause Notices to various industrial units charging them for contraventions of the provincial Environmental Protection Acts such as the Sindh Environmental Protection Act, 2014. The sudden enforcement and implementation of the aforesaid laws has serious legal repercussions for industry, which will now have to comply with stringent Environmental Quality Standards as well as the procedures set out for new project and obtaining license to handle hazardous materials. HDLC is proud to announce the establishment of its Environment Litigation and Consultancy Cell at both its Karachi and Lahore offices. With experience in commercial and corporate law and an established litigation practice, HDLC is well placed to effectively and efficiently deal with the legal issues arising out of enforcement and compliance of the environmental laws. The Environment Litigation and Consultancy Cell of HDLC, is staffed by associates trained in the environmental laws operating under the guidance of the head of chambers, Barrister Haroon Dugal. Barrister Dugal has the benefit of working under Dr. Parvez Hassan (founding partner of Hassan & Hassan Advocates), the President of the Pakistan Environmental Law Association as well his close association with Ahmad Rafay Alam, Vice-President of the Pakistan Environmental Law Association.
